A (Mostly) Sunny Holiday Road-Trip Through Florida To New Orleans

Day 10: Homesick

Location: New Orleans, LA

After three days of bone-chilling wet gloomy weather, the mood is low. We already have canvassed the streets of the French Quarter over the last couple of days and we don’t seem to be able to enjoy any of New Orleans, LA’s charms today.

We tried to visit a couple other neighborhoods but the ever-grey cold weather makes everything look dreadful and any stroll an ordeal. We finally realized that we’d rather be freezing at home in Brooklyn, NY than visiting a distant city, and we even went to see Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi to kill time indoors while waiting for our flight home scheduled tomorrow evening.

Initially planned to maximize our time in the final destination of our road-trip, the late flight now feels like a cruel torment under the depressing circumstances. We sorely miss the sunny weather and the fair temperatures we had at the beginning of our trip, and I don’t feel like being tourist anymore in a city already swarming with them everywhere we went.

Unfortunately the punishing $400 fee to change our flight made us pass on the idea of coming back earlier. It’s doubly depressing to be bummed on vacation because of the expectation of enjoyment, but there’s seemingly nothing we can do about it under this bleak weather.
